Title: A Red Red Rose

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis

Characters: Carson Beckett, Original Female Character
Prompt:
030: Death

Word Count: 2042
Rating:
Rated PG-13 for angst

Summary: A single rose, a memory, someone thinks of Carson Beckett. This story could be considered a sequel to my earlier story Things I Should Have Said and contains an excerpt from the same. Set in Season 4-5, sometime after Kindred II and before The Seed, containers a minor spoiler for Season 3, Sunday

Author's Notes:   This story was inspired by my own recent loss. Seven weeks ago, my husband passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. I was walking around my yard and took a really good look at the rosebush that grows next to my house. I looked at the roses and I remembered my husband and this is the result...

The title comes from Robert Burns much-loved poem ‘My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose’ which I have included at the end of this story. Thanks Rabbie, for summing up so beautifully what I lived for 15 years.

Where I've been lately

  • Jun. 5th, 2009 at 7:32 PM

Some of you may have heard the most recent news in my life from other forums.  Many of you have not, as I am relatively new to LJ and have not built a following for my writing as of yet. I have taken a break from my writing recently, not by choice, but by the circumstances thrust upon me in recent weeks.  My last story, Blue Light Special was posted April 21, 2009 as part of my committment to the LJ fanfic100 challenge.  Ideally, I was working on new pieces to post once every other week or so.

These entries have evaporated for the moment.  My muse has not deserted me and left me thirsty for ideas.  Rather, it is hiding, broken and wounded by the sudden death of my beloved husband.  We met some of the LJ members last year and those who had the opportunity to meet Jade fell in love with him.  His passing has left a huge void in my life and I never in a million years imagined I would be a single parent at my age.

I still plan to continue with my committment to the fanfic100 challenge, but right now, when I open a new document, the empty page reminds me of the new emptiness in my life. It has been said that time heals all wounds, however, I see before me a long, dark stretch and I wonder where the light has gone.  Jade was my light in dark places.  His love sustained me when I was lost, uplifted me when I was down.  He loved me unconditionally, without hesitation or reservation, without judgment or stipulation.  It is rare to find that kind of love and I was blessed and priviledged to have it for 15 years.

Knowing I had this love, this incredible gift, sustains me now.  I draw strength from this love.  I know it is binding and eternal and transcends death.  I will be back to writing again, sooner rather that later, as sharing my thoughts gives me comfort in these troubled times.

To my LJ friends, thank you for understanding.

Title: Things I Should Have Said
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis

Characters: Carson Beckett
Prompt: Writer’s Choice: Second Chances
Word Count: 2227
Rating: G

Summary: Given a second chance but faced with an uncertain future, Carson writes a letter. What does a man say to the most important person in his life, when tomorrow is not a guarantee?

Author's Notes:
This story was inspired by a line from Kindred II.  Carson (to Carter) “Samantha, there’s a letter, in my quarters, addressed to my mother...”

This and RL issues, have been weighing heavily on my mind and I’ve been wondering, why is it we wait until it’s too late to say what’s really important?

Well, after hearing so much about LJ from friends...here I am.  Welcome to my world.  Stay, play, relax, have an adventure.  After all, life is not just about the journey; it is about the experiences we have along the way.

Thanks for sharing this experience with me.  And for those of you who have been waiting for me to finally start posting fics...here you go.
